Cultural Competence

"Although there are multiple definitions and some controversy in the literature and in the field about the terms "culturally competent" and "culturally appropriate care," we use the following definition in our mini lecture: culturally appropriate care are service centered on understanding that a patient's cultural background based on the understanding that this background can shape their mental health and affect the types of services they use. The provision of culturally appropriate care also emphasizes the importances of understanding the cultural background of the clinician and the service system as these will affect the diagnosis, treatment, the organization and the financing of clinical care."
